Serving at Mass


At Saint Bonaventure, there are many opportunities to serve at Mass. See the current ministry schedule here.

Altar Server
Assist the priest and deacon at Mass. Altar Servers have received First Communion and can be male or female. This opportunity requires training and reverence for what happens during the liturgy.

When: Weekend Masses

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)
Assist in administering the Sacrament of Holy Communion, the Sacred Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ at Mass. EMHCs have received the Sacrament of Confirmation, are in good standing with the Church, and can be male or female. This opportunity requires training and a reverence for the Eucharist and the
people of God.

When: Weekend Masses

Greeter
Offer the welcoming smile and words of greeting to all who enter our doors. Welcome people, distribute the worship aid, and offer assistance as needed. Greeters are men and women of all ages. This opportunity requires training and a friendly and helpful disposition.

When: Weekend Masses

Lector
Proclaim the Word of God in the Liturgy. Lectors are men and women who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. This opportunity requires training in projecting one’s voice and proclaiming the Scripture clearly, distinctly, and with understanding.

Music
Provide musical leadership at Mass and special liturgies. We have many opportunities to be involved with music at Saint Bonaventure, learn more here.

When: Weekend Masses and special liturgies

Sacristan
A sacristan prepares the church for Mass and special liturgical celebrations. Sacristans are men and women who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation and have received EMHC training. Sacristans must complete Essential 3 Requirements before serving.

When: One or two weekends every three months

​Usher
Assist before, during, and after worship. Assist with the collection, distribute the bulletin, and assist parishioners as needed. Ushers are men and women of all ages. This opportunity requires training and a friendly and helpful disposition.
