Holy Days of Obligation
Holy days of obligation are an extension of the celebration of the Holy Mass each Sunday, which Jesus tells us to do in his memory. Through the various solemnities celebrated throughout the year, we continue following the life of Our Lord, his Blessed Mother, and the saints. There are five Holy Days of Obligation that are observed in our part of the United States:

Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God (January 1)
Midnight Mass of New Year will be celebrated at 12 a.m.
Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 1, at 8:45 a.m.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15)
Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15, at 8:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • In accord with the complimentary norm to canon 1246 §2 confirmed for the dioceses of the United States of America, whenever this solemnity falls on a Saturday or a Monday, the obligation to attend Mass on this date is abrogated.

Solemnity of All Saints (November 1)
Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, November 1, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
  • See this article about Vatican guidance for a Holy Day of Obligation that falls on a Sunday.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 8)

Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 8, at 8:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ – Christmas (December 25)
Christmas Eve Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 24, at 4:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Christmas Day Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 25, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
