Although in the broadest sense any external sign of the action of God’s grace in life of a believer has a sacramental aspect, there are seven sacraments instituted by Christ which actually confer the grace they signify, namely Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Penance (Reconciliation), Holy Orders, Matrimony and the Anointing of the Sick.
