Religious Education

St Bonaventure’s staff and volunteers provide professional leadership, direction and coordination for the pastoral and spiritual development of the youth (3 years old through 12th grade) for the parish Faith Formation programs.  They minister to the Christian, spiritual and sacramental needs of the families within the parish community.  They promote and involve participation of youth, and their families, in organized programs, events, fundraisers and social gatherings. The staff and volunteers foster the youth participation in all aspects of parish life.

St Bonaventure offers on-site faith formation programs for children using prescribed, age-appropriate curricula using a classroom model throughout the school year for children and youth to help parents fulfill their role as the primary catechists of their children.  Religious education programs are forged in a partnership with parents.

Fees for Religious Education programs are based on the costs of providing the program.  Textbooks, resources, service opportunities, speakers and supplies are provided to each child to help children experience their Catholic faith in a tangible way.

Sacramental preparation for First Sacraments (Reconciliation and Eucharist) and Confirmation is offered independently from other parish faith formation programs.  Fees help cover costs associated specifically to prepare for each sacrament which may include workbooks, supplies, retreats, Archdiocesan fees and other activities.

Children and teens who are preparing for sacraments should be enrolled in either a parish faith formation program or Catholic day school to better understand the communal nature of our Catholic Church.  All sacraments are celebrated within the context of the Christian community – and the class - either through parish or school programs, represent the Christian community’s prayer and blessing throughout the preparation period.  In the classroom, sacramental candidates can experience the mutual support and mentorship of their peers, reflecting the strength and blessings of the entire parish.
