Representatives of the various liturgical ministries and the community at large work together as a team to provide the parish with meaningful, well-planned liturgies that seek “full, conscious, and active participation.”
If you want be become involved with the community in Mass and Special Liturgical services, the following are opportunities to share your talent:
Altar Server: Serve at worship as a cross or book bearer; assist the priest and deacon. Must be 2nd Grade (after First Communion) or older to serve, adults welcomed. Required training offered as needed.
Art and Environment (September-June): Assists with liturgical seasonal décor; involves work with plant and floral arrangements; fabrics, decorative elements. Physical dexterity is a plus, especially if you are able to climb ladders or have handyman skills. Seamstress talents are needed at this time. All skill levels and ages welcomed. Project dates and times revolve around the liturgical seasons and special liturgies.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EME): Assist in the distribution of Holy Eucharist at worship. Training is required, along with commissioning. Workshops will be made available. Must be confirmed.
Fellowship after Mass (August-May): Ensure coffee is made. Serve coffee and donuts or cookies and juice for fellowship after liturgies. Cleanup duties involved.
Greeter: Welcome people to Mass, distribute worship aids, and make sure all materials needed for the liturgy are made available.
Lector: Expressing the Word of God in the Liturgy of the Mass. Training is required; commissioning and additional workshops will be made available. Must be confirmed.
Linen Care: Cares for linen and vestments; some laundry and transport of materials to dry cleaners. Seamstress skills may be helpful.
Sacristan: The team of sacristans at St Bonaventure assist the clergy and liturgical director with many of the details for setting up Masses and other services at the church, as well as special needs and directions for parishioners. Includes daily and weekend Masses, as well as funeral and special Masses and services.
Usher: Assist at worship (before, during and after); take up the collection; distribute the bulletin and any pages or envelopes; assist parishioners as needed. Workshops will be made available. For men and women; teens welcomed.
Wedding Coordinator: Provides the assistance of a sacristan and server for parish weddings. Assists with the wedding rehearsal, setup beforehand, during, and cleanup after the wedding. Must meet with the couple to take them through the many choices to be made. Training is required.
