Youth Faith Formation Special Events

Faith Formation Special Events

Youth can become involved or partake in many parish and community activities and/or groups.

Retreats

|

The youth at St. Bonaventure’s participate in a retreat each year.

  • The grades 6-8 retreats are typically one day each.
  • The 9th graders retreat is from Friday night to Saturday late afternoon.
  • The 10th grade retreat is from Friday night to Sunday afternoon. The 10th grade retreat is an integral part of their preparation for Confirmation.

The retreats are mandatory, as retreats are an integral part of the youth’s faith formation. Each retreat has a theme that correlates with what the youth are studying in their Faith Formation classes.

May Crowning

The May Crowning takes place the first Wednesday of May. It is our last official faith formation event for the school year. Participants process from the school building to the church singing songs to praise and honor our Blessed Mother. There is a Coronation ceremony during Mass. We conclude with a recognition ceremony for all elementary grade students who have completed the year with perfect/outstanding attendance, all Faithworks turned in and all prayers memorized. An ice cream social concludes the day.

Operation Rice Bowl

Operation Rice Bowl is a Lenten fundraiser sponsered by the youth. The money collected goes to help those in lesser-developed countries. It brings nutritious food and clean water to those who would otherwise have none. Donations fund education programs, healthcare and housing to those less fortunate.

Operation Christmas Child

St Bonaventure participates in the Operation Christmas Child "Shoebox" programs. This unique program helps needy children in desperate situations to see the joy of the Holiday Season. Recipients of Operation Christmas Child are given a special Christmas gift - a shoebox filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, or even candy.

Supper with Saint Nicholas

Supper with Saint Nicholas takes place the first Saturday in December. Here, families share a meal, frost and decorate cookies, create Christmas crafts, visit with St. Nicholas and get in the spirit of the season.

All Saints Party

The All Saints Party takes place the last part of October. It is intended as an alternative to the “scary” costume themed Halloween. The children are encouraged to dress up as their favorite saint. There are games, prizes, food and fun for the entire family.
