In Roman Catholicism “Bible” refers to Sacred Scripture, which, together with Sacred Tradition, contains and is the Word of God, the source of revelation about God’s person and will, and together they form a part of the Rule of Faith.
Bible study groups have been fairly common from the time of Divino Afflante Spiritu, the encyclical of Pope Pius XII, which first encouraged Catholics to become informed regarding the Scriptures. This effort was further fostered by the Second Vatican Council in Dei Verbum. These groups generally meet informally for a discussion of the Scriptures and an attempt at relating their message to the daily lives of the participants.
Various Bible Studies are held from time to time. The closest such activity currently scheduled in 2012 is the Catholicism Project.
